On Call International

On Call International is a travel assistance company rather than a travel insurance company.  As a travel assistance company they provide emergency services while one of their members is on a trip such as emergency evacuations and repatriations to the hospital of the member's choice, medical, dental and pharmacy referrals, return of mortal remains, and language translation to name a few.

On January 21, 2016, HCC Insurance Holdings, Inc., (Tokio Marine HCC) announced the acquisition of On Call International, LLC.

Excellent Service from On Call

My wife had surgery and was hospitalized in Thailand. After two weeks, we needed to be flown back to the U.S. Our travel insurance had contracted with On Call to make the arrangements. Our experience with On Call was excellent. Representatives were always available, had full information about the case, and were able to answer questions throughout the time she was hospitalized. They communicated directly with the hospital. Once her Thai physician was ready to release her, final approval came within a few hours of their receipt of the documentation. As he recommended, they sent a rescue nurse to accompany us and arranged the shortest possible flight itinerary with the fewest stops even though it was not the least expensive. There were only two "hiccups": (1) they somehow failed to arrange transportation from the hospital to the airport, but the hospital stepped in and provided it for us; (2) they failed to inform me that the travel insurance would only provide economy class transportation for me, but then at the last minute when I learned this, they arranged an upgrade for me at my expense but at a very good price. On Call saved us a lot of worry, anxiety, time and sweat by handling all the arrangements. Unlike other reviewers, we were very satisfied and most grateful that we had On Call's services available to us.

Horrific Experience

I cannot express how horrible this service is. When my mother was hospitalized in Va as a result of a symptom of her terminal cancer, this service failed to deliver. They required form after form and delayed for days stating that they were waiting for their medical staff to evaluate whether a nurse was required to accompany my mother. At no time did they indicate that they were making a plan to transport my mother home or communicating when this would happen. The continued response was that they needed another form and then would take another day or so to get back. We finally had no choice other than to make our own arrangements to fly my mother home. I cannot say enough about how terrible I think this organization is.

got me home

I traveled to France in May and had to have emerg. surgery first day of trip. Man as soon as On Call found out
I was in the Hospital, they were calling my son, myself and hospital staff about my situation . When it was time to
go back to Boston it was so coordinated. CHRIS a male nurse from florida came to travel with me.
Ambulance ride 4 hours from Normandy to Paris. Right to Air France terminal and on to a 747 in business class.
When we got to Boston zipped right through Customs and another ambulance ride to Brigham Womens hospital.

I would recommend this company to all for their care and dedication was wonderful
